Back Llubí
Llubí

Inland municipality located in the center of the island, in the region of Pla de Mallorca. Llubí is a small town, with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. As for the heritage elements, the following stand out: the parish church of Sant Feliu, built between the 16th and 17th centuries; the four stone crosses, which formerly marked the limits of the town; the flour windmills, especially the heritage complex of the Molí d'en Suau and the adjacent building of sa Farinera (former flour factory), converted into a cultural center and the hermitage of Sant Crist, on the outskirts of the town.
The landscape that surrounds the town is filled with rainfed crops, mainly almond and carob trees. But just a few decades ago, the most important agricultural activity in Llubí was the grow of capers. Traditionally the capers were grown in combination with cereals and were harvested between the months of June and September. Today the grow of capers is not as important as it once was, but they can still be seen in the mowed fields in the summer. In addition, they are a common, or even essential, complement to many traditional dishes. In Llubí, the caper has its own event: the gastronomic route Tapes amb Tàperes (Tapas with Capers), in the month of June, when the bars and bakeries make tapas with the most iconic product of the town.
Another prominent event is the Fira de la Mel (honey fair), which takes place in November. In Llubí there is a great beekeeping tradition and the fair is a good opportunity to get to know the world of beekeeping and bees, taste and buy Mallorcan honey of different varieties (carob tree, rosemary, orange blossom...) and all kinds of products related to it: mead, wax, honeycomb, royal jelly, etc.
